Chicago Weekend

Pin It Mr. Manfriend and I spent the weekend in Chicago to celebrate our one year anniversary.  This year has gone by so fast. The city felt so alive, there is so much to do. Some of what we did was planned and some we stumbled on to. I feel like I have not taken advantage of living so close to the city and hope to plan another trip there soon.  Here are some pics of our adventures. Enjoy!

Anniversary

Pin It I can't believe that it has been one year since AJ and I got married. It was truly the most amazing day of my life. I wouldn't change a thing, and I feel super blessed that I can honestly say that.

Here are a few pictures down memory lane.

If you would like to see more pictures of our blessed event, here are a few sites that you can check out.

Luau Birthday

Pin It Sorry for the recent hiatus. When I started this blog it was my goal to post at least 3x a week. With school coming to an end (6 more days!) that has not happened. But with Summer just around the corner, I'm back! :) and now for today's post which will require some participation.

Mr. Manfriend and I have birthdays that are a day apart, which means that that we have a dual Birthday Bash, obviously. This Saturday is our third Birthday Luau and the quest for a Luau dress has begun. Typically I have a hard time finding tropical wear that matches my aesthetic, but this year I found three dresses online, partially because of Target's new Specialty shops, so I of course ordered all three. Please vote and let me know which one is your fave.

On Saturday Mr. Manfriend & I went to Prom... as chaperones. I would feel like this was a bit odd, if it wasn't our fourth time.

So what to wear to Prom? I had a fellow teacher once tell me that if you can not see up it, down it, or through it, you were good... Words to live by really.

Previously I have worn a classy, black dress, but this year I decided to switch it up. and by switch it up, I mean navy, risk taker right here. :)

Psssst... Hair tutorial here.

I had the perfect thing to write for this post an it completely flew out of my brain. bah.

Today the wind was not my friend.

oh! and that adorable four legged fiend is our puppy Cudi, he is a pittie, but don't be fooled he is the most cuddly, awkward, clumsy, and loveable boy ever.

Also, I am slightly obsessed with small prints and skirts with pockets. :)

I love to thrift. I am one of those girls who has a lot of unusual pieces in her wardrobe, but sometimes lacks the practical (like a button down denim shirt, something in me refuses to pay full price even though I know it would be a well worn purchase.)

To me thrifting is an adventure that inspires problem solving and creativity. How can I accessorize or alter this to make it modern? While I might not "need" a striped power suit jacket or a houndstooth jumper, they add personality and spice up my wardrobe. I find thrifting is best when you are not in a hurry and are not looking for something specific. (I learned this the hard way.)

Both my shirt and skirt worn today are thrifted. I found them at the same place. That made styling this super easy but I often try to have a game plan of how I will wear something before I purchase it "try" (I am a sucker for most under $5 deals).

What is your favorite thrifted find?

I have bangs again. I actually have had bangs for most of this year, but I haven't gotten my hair cut since December. (Yes I am due for one!) Hence, I have started trimming my own bangs, which is a big step for me. Usually I just trim them every other week and follow what the beautician has cut, but this time there was a good three inches that needed to come off, and I just went for it. This is not the first time that I have cut my hair. When I was three I took the scissors, hid in a corner and chopped. Needless to say my parents were not pleased and I sported a "creative" cut for a few months. Since then I have been a little more particular with my hair, but cutting my own bags was quite liberating. Have you ever cut your own hair and to what result?
