I had the perfect thing to write for this post an it completely flew out of my brain. bah.

Today the wind was not my friend.

oh! and that adorable four legged fiend is our puppy Cudi, he is a pittie, but don't be fooled he is the most cuddly, awkward, clumsy, and loveable boy ever.

Also, I am slightly obsessed with small prints and skirts with pockets. :)

I love to thrift. I am one of those girls who has a lot of unusual pieces in her wardrobe, but sometimes lacks the practical (like a button down denim shirt, something in me refuses to pay full price even though I know it would be a well worn purchase.)

To me thrifting is an adventure that inspires problem solving and creativity. How can I accessorize or alter this to make it modern? While I might not "need" a striped power suit jacket or a houndstooth jumper, they add personality and spice up my wardrobe. I find thrifting is best when you are not in a hurry and are not looking for something specific. (I learned this the hard way.)

Both my shirt and skirt worn today are thrifted. I found them at the same place. That made styling this super easy but I often try to have a game plan of how I will wear something before I purchase it "try" (I am a sucker for most under $5 deals).

What is your favorite thrifted find?

I have bangs again. I actually have had bangs for most of this year, but I haven't gotten my hair cut since December. (Yes I am due for one!) Hence, I have started trimming my own bangs, which is a big step for me. Usually I just trim them every other week and follow what the beautician has cut, but this time there was a good three inches that needed to come off, and I just went for it. This is not the first time that I have cut my hair. When I was three I took the scissors, hid in a corner and chopped. Needless to say my parents were not pleased and I sported a "creative" cut for a few months. Since then I have been a little more particular with my hair, but cutting my own bags was quite liberating. Have you ever cut your own hair and to what result?

This week I participated in the stripes challenge over at What I Wore. I wanted to show two very diverse styles one very much in my typical style and one a little out of my comfort zone. I recently purchased/ thrifted the suit jacket and am still pondering ways to style it without getting lost in the shoulder pads. I think pairing it with these skinny capris makes for a nice silhouette.

I would also like to point out that I recognize that these images are shot a little bit later than what I would label "ideal" lighting but sometimes work calls and this week it called for prepping and dropping off student work for a show and many many meetings. Make it work! Right? (oh that Tim Gunn..)

Marble

I marbleized my nails. First I used a base coat of China Glaze in "Peachy Keen" and marbleized with Essie "Mango Bango".  I kinda just went for it from what I know about making marbleized paper, but next time I will definitely be using tape and more colors, like this tutorial. I made the mistake of not using the aforementioned tape, please learn from my mistake and save your self the extra 30 minutes of removing all of the polish off of your skin. Also do not use a styrofoam cup, the nail polish eats through it (I also learned that the hard way.) My nails also remind me a bit of smoke photography, random but I thought I would share. :)

This outfit is a little out there for me. I am more of a vintage, floral, lace, and scarf kinda girl, but today I decided to switch it up and add a little more edge.

Pulling it off?

If you thought I was referencing How I Met Your Mother and Ted's red cowboy boots...you wouldn't be wrong.

Milwaukee & Door County

A few weeks ago, Mr. Manfriend and I went on a much needed mini-vacation to Door County, Wisconsin and spent a day in Milwaukee along the way. Since it was the off season, there were quite a few places that were closed, but the stay was much cheaper and there were still beautiful sites to see! Here is a very small sampling of our trip.

To spring or not to spring?

Weather here is bananas. The past week has fluctuated between 30s and 70s. Welcome to Illinois. Therefore, I like to layer it up. This might be my new favorite skirt. When I purchased it for a mere $4, it hit this awkward place above my ankles so I hemmed it up a bit...and it has pockets! I love pockets.
